Pudney in 1931 This evocative photograph captures the moment of takeoff for an extraordinary aerial survey expedition led by British aviator Miss Delphine Reynolds and her pilot, W.G. Pudney, in March 1931. Departing from Hanworth aerodrome, they embarked on a daring journey down the West African coast in their Blackburn Bluebird IV, registration number G-ABGF. Their mission was to conduct a comprehensive survey of the region, starting with Tangier and ultimately reaching Bathurst, Gambia. Their aerial survey flight was an essential contribution to the understanding of the West African coastline, providing valuable information for transportation, communication, and infrastructure development. This photograph, taken during their historic journey, encapsulates the spirit of adventure and exploration that characterized the early days of aviation.
