In this evocative scene, Manrico, the troubadour, is depicted serenading Leonora beneath the moonlit sky. The year is 1853, and the opera, first performed in Rome, tells the passionate and tragic story of the gypsy Azucena, her son Manrico, the Count di Luna, and Leonora, a noblewoman. Manrico, a troubadour, falls deeply in love with Leonora, but she is already betrothed to the Count. In a twist of fate, Azucena is mistakenly believed to have kidnapped Leonora years ago, and the Count seeks revenge.
