William Beach Thomas
William Beach Thomas, KBE, (22 May 1868 12 May 1957), British author and journalist known for his work as a war correspondent during World War I and for his writings about nature and country life. His reportage for the Daily Mail in France during World War I received national recognition, though it met with criticism and was parodied by soldiers as well. His book With the British on the Somme (1917) portrayed the English soldier in a very favourable light. Both France and the British Empire rewarded him with knighthoods after the war. Date: 1918
