Vera and Gerald Weisfeld, millionaire business owners of the What Every Woman Wants

Vera and Gerald Weisfeld, millionaire business owners of the What Every Woman Wants empire, in Muslim East Mostar, Bosnia... or what is left of East Mostar after 11 months of bombardment by an alliance of Serbs and Croats.
Pictured December 1994.
Vera was determined to see for herself the results of the fund-raising efforts she had made back in Scotland, and Gerald, 55, would not allow her to travel to the war zone alone.
Before witnessing the horror of Mostar, the Weisfelds had taken delight in unloading their lorryload of love, newly-arrived at the Tasovcici refugee camp.
Vera jumped on to the back of the truck (which she had not only filled, but bought as well). She then began chucking down boxes of tinned turkey, shampoo, toothpaste, clothes and crates of childrens shoes.
The camp, run by the Duchess of Yorks charity, Children in Crisis, shelters 500 Croats, 180 of them children. The Weisfeld Foundation gave £ 10, 000 to Children in Crisis, so that a kitchen can be built at Tosovcici. Vera Weisfeld

EDITORS COMMENTS
Vera and Gerald Weisfeld: A Journey of Compassion amidst Destruction". This poignant print captures the indomitable spirit of Vera and Gerald Weisfeld, millionaire business owners of the renowned What Every Woman Wants empire. In December 1994, they found themselves in Muslim East Mostar, Bosnia - a place ravaged by eleven months of relentless bombardment from an alliance of Serbs and Croats. Determined to witness firsthand the impact of their fundraising efforts back in Scotland, Vera was resolute on venturing into this war-torn zone. However, her loving husband Gerald, aged 55 at the time, refused to let her brave this perilous journey alone. Before encountering the horrors that plagued Mostar's streets, the Weisfelds had already spread joy at Tasovcici refugee camp. Their truckload filled with love arrived just in time for them to personally distribute boxes upon boxes containing essential supplies like tinned turkey, shampoo, toothpaste, clothes and crates full of children's shoes – all purchased by Vera herself. The camp housed 500 Croats including 180 children under the compassionate care provided by Children in Crisis charity run by none other than Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The Weisfeld Foundation generously donated £10,000 to support building a kitchen facility at Tosovcici. This remarkable photograph serves as a testament to humanity's resilience even amidst destruction. It immortalizes two individuals who selflessly dedicated themselves towards alleviating suffering during one of history's darkest chapters.
