EDITORS COMMENTS
Dustbin Delight: Mrs. Margaret Sutcliffe, a resident of Marsh, proudly presents one of her creatively crafted dustbin-shaped cakes to the children from Deighton Junior School and St Patrick's Infant School in Birkby. This delightful gesture came as a result of Mrs. Sutcliffe's admiration for the students' unwavering enthusiasm during an anti-litter campaign organized by Kirklees Cleansing Services Environmental Improvement Unit. Impressed by their dedication towards keeping their surroundings clean and litter-free, Mrs. Sutcliffe decided to express her appreciation through these delectable treats. Each school received a cake as a token of gratitude for their active participation in the initiative. In this heartwarming photograph captured on 7th November 1989, we see Terri Batley from Deighton Junior School alongside Ciaran O'Shea and Victoria Clegg from St Patrick's Infant School, all eagerly holding onto their delicious dustbin-shaped creations. Sophie Simpson and Ahsim Jawed from Deighton also join in the joyous moment. This snapshot not only reflects the spirit of camaraderie between community members but also highlights the importance of instilling environmental consciousness among young minds. It serves as a reminder that small acts can make significant differences when it comes to preserving our planet. As we delve into this nostalgic memory from Huddersfield's past, let us cherish such moments that inspire us to come together for a cleaner and greener future.
