Jigsaw Puzzles from Science Photo Library
Carl Jung, caricature
Carl Jung (1875- 1961). Caricature of the Swiss psychiatrist and one of the founders of modern analytical psychotherapy Carl Gustav Jung. In 1907, Jung met Sigmund Freud and became his main collaborator. He served as the first president of the International Psycho-Analytical Association until 1912, when he and Freud broke up. Jung felt that sexual causes of neuroses were minimal, but continued to champion the role of the unconscious mind. He believed that as well as a personal unconscious formed by a persons experiences, there was also a collective unconscious which was common to all humanity. Jung practiced, lectured and published until aged over 80 years old

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a caricature of the renowned Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung. As one of the pioneers and founders of modern analytical psychotherapy, Jung's contributions to the field are immeasurable. In 1907, he crossed paths with Sigmund Freud and their collaboration became legendary. Serving as the first president of the International Psycho-Analytical Association until their eventual split in 1912, Jung held firm in his belief that sexual causes of neuroses were not as significant as others claimed. Jung's groundbreaking theories centered around the profound role played by both personal and collective unconsciousness in shaping human behavior. He firmly believed that our experiences formed a personal unconscious while also acknowledging a shared collective unconscious that transcended individual boundaries. Throughout his life, even into his advanced years beyond eighty, Jung dedicated himself to practicing psychiatry, delivering lectures, and publishing influential works. This remarkable illustration captures not only his historical significance but also highlights his status as an adult figure who paved new paths within psychology. With its white background emphasizing clarity and focus on this iconic figure from history, this artful depiction invites contemplation on Jung's lasting impact on the field of psychology.
