AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) destroys T4 lymphocytes, rendering the victim liable to fatal secondary infections. The virus, designated HIV for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a retrovirus: its genetic program is held in RNA (red cores of virus spheres), translated into DNA inside the T4 cell, & infiltrates the cells own DNA.
