Jigsaw Puzzle : Kidney glomerulus
Jigsaw Puzzles from Science Photo Library
Kidney glomerulus
Glomerulus. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a healthy kidney glomerulus. The glomerulus is a tight ball of capillaries where blood passing through the kidneys is filtered. Fluid passes out of the capillaries into the cavity of the surrounding Bowmans capsule (not seen) and drains into a long tube, from which essential substances and some water are reabsorbed. The remaining unwanted fluid, containing toxins from the blood, drains to the bladder as urine. Magnification unknown

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from Science Photo Library showcases the intricate beauty of a kidney glomerulus. In this coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM), we are given a glimpse into the microscopic world of our urinary system. The glomerulus, depicted as a tight ball of capillaries, plays a vital role in filtering blood passing through the kidneys. As blood flows through these delicate vessels, fluid is released into the cavity of Bowman's capsule, which unfortunately remains unseen in this image. From there, it drains into a long tube where essential substances and some water are reabsorbed by our body. However, any unwanted fluid containing toxins from the blood continues its journey to be expelled as urine in our bladder. The magnified details captured here leave us marveling at the complexity and efficiency of our internal systems. This photograph not only highlights the importance of healthy kidneys but also serves as an invaluable resource for anatomy and physiology enthusiasts. Science Photo Library has once again provided us with an incredible visual representation that bridges science and art seamlessly. Whether you're studying histology or simply fascinated by microscopic photos, this print offers endless opportunities for exploration and appreciation of the human body's remarkable intricacies.
