Water flea, SEM
Water flea. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a water flea (order Cladocera, brown) in its shell (red). The water flea is a small freshwater crustacean, commonly found in ponds. It feeds on algae, which it wafts into its mouth by beating small limbs on its shell. The feeding legs are seen at lower centre, while the antennae are above the legs and protrude through the two slits when in use. Magnification: x215 when printed 10cm wide
