A carrier pigeon message received a few days later was the last trace of the expedition until their remains were found 33 years later east of Spitsbergen. This print captures the ill-fated expedition to explore the North Pole led by Salomon - Auguste Andree, a renowned Swedish engineer. In this 19th-century image, we see Andree standing at the center, surrounded by the brave men who accompanied him on this perilous journey. Little did they know that their fate would be sealed shortly after setting out on July 11,1897, aboard a balloon.
