Belgian Patients & VAD Staff in B Ward at the Quex Park VAD Hospital. This ward was situated in the first gallery of the Museum, built in 1896, The Gallery housed a diorama (right hand side of photograph), natural history and ethnography displays. Fifteen beds were used in this room. Beyond the archway is C Ward in the second gallery which was added in the early 1900s. The two VADs are members of the Westgate Detachment Kent/64 which worked at the hospital until 10 November 1914. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum. Date: 1919
