A Cuckoo in the Nest,

EDITORS COMMENTS
a classic farce by British playwright Ben Travers, first premiered at the Court Theatre in Liverpool and the Aldwych Theatre on July 22, 1925. This iconic photograph captures a moment from the production, featuring the distinguished faces of two of its leading stars: Ralph Lynn, holding a candle, and Tom Walls, one of the show's producers. The woman in the foreground, played by the captivating Yvonne Arnaud, embodies the cuckoo in the nest, adding an air of unpredictability and mischief to the scene. The production, which was one of the famous Aldwych farces, was touring to the Theatre Royal in Bournemouth on December 6, 1926. The photograph captures the essence of the play's whimsical and comedic nature, with the actors' expressive faces, the candle's flickering light, and the mysterious presence of the cuckoo in the nest. The play's title refers to the cuckoo bird, which lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, leaving the unsuspecting parents to raise its young. In this production, Yvonne Arnaud's character plays the role of the cuckoo, disrupting the peaceful and orderly lives of the other characters. The photograph's timeless quality is further emphasized by the moonlit night scene and the use of the props, such as the candles and the eggs, which add to the play's comedic and theatrical elements. The laughter and joy on the actors' faces are a testament to the enduring appeal of this classic farce, which continues to captivate audiences to this day.
