The foundation stone of Middlesex Pauper Lunatic Asylum was laid on 8th May 1849 by Prince Albert at Colney Hatch, near Friern Barnet, Middlesex (North London). It later became known as Colney Hatch Mental Hospital and then as Friern Hospital. Date: 1849
