John Hewson's remarkable journey began during the English Civil War when he joined the New Model Army as a common soldier. His exceptional leadership skills and military acumen soon came to the attention of Oliver Cromwell, who promoted him to the rank of general in 1650. Hewson played a crucial role in several key battles, including the Second Battle of Newbury and the Battle of Worcester.
