During this time, he made significant contributions to the fields of zoology, ornithology, and ichthyology. One of his most notable achievements was the discovery and description of several new species, including the forest kangaroo (Dendrolagus inustus) and the Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii). Lacepède's groundbreaking work on the classification of marine fish led to the establishment of the journal Annales des Sciences Naturelles, which he edited for over 20 years.
