EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning oil painting captures the elegance and grace of Her Royal Highness Princess Patricia of Connaught, nee Princess Victoria Helena Elizabeth of Connaught (1886-1974). A granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Patricia was born in Kent, England, and was the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught. In 1919, she married Admiral Sir Alexander Robert Maule Ramsay, and became known as Lady Patricia Ramsay. The portrait, painted circa 1918, showcases Princess Patricia's beautiful features and regal bearing. Her piercing blue eyes gaze intently out from the canvas, while her chestnut-brown hair is styled in an elegant updo. She wears a richly colored gown, adorned with intricate beading and embroidery, and a delicate necklace and earrings complete her elegant appearance. This portrait was published in the September volume of Charles Haslewood Shannon's "March of the Women" collection, a series of portraits of notable women of the time. The collection, which was first published in 1918, aimed to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in various fields. Princess Patricia's inclusion in the collection is a testament to her status as a prominent figure in British society during this period. The painting's vibrant colors and intricate details make it a captivating work of art, and a valuable addition to any collection of royal portraits or historical art. Whether displayed in a grand estate or a more modest home, this portrait of Princess Patricia of Connaught is sure to inspire awe and admiration for generations to come.
