EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historic L'egare II, a raft that made waves during the North Atlantic expedition of 1956. Led by Henri Beaudout, a brave French crew set sail from Halifax, Nova Scotia on this remarkable journey that would span 88 days before reaching Falmouth, England. What sets this expedition apart is not just the human crew aboard L'egare II, but also two furry feline companions - Puce and Guiton. Puce, a sleek black cat, and his grey sister Guiton added an extra touch of charm to this daring voyage across the vast ocean. After making landfall at Falmouth, these adventurous cats were presented to none other than the Duke of Bedford and went on to live out their lives in style at Woburn Abbey as part of the Children's Zoo. Their presence onboard L'egare II undoubtedly brought joy and comfort to all who embarked on this incredible journey. This print serves as a timeless reminder of the courage and camaraderie displayed by both humans and animals alike during this unforgettable chapter in maritime history. The legacy of L'egare II continues to inspire awe and admiration for those who dare to push boundaries and explore uncharted waters.
