This striking photograph, taken from the Daily Mirror on September 22, 1911, captures the aftermath of a collision between two prominent vessels of the early 20th century: RMS Olympic and HMS Hawke. The RMS Olympic, a luxurious ocean liner belonging to the White Star Line, is seen here with a noticeable gash on its starboard side. The HMS Hawke, a new cruiser of the Royal Navy, is shown with its bow raised, having rammed into the side of the liner. The collision occurred during sea trials for the HMS Hawke in the English Channel.
