This photograph showcases a United States Air Force (USAF) Convair F-106A Delta Dart jet fighter with the serial number 57-2478, assigned to the 456th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron during the mid to late 1960s. The F-106A Delta Dart, produced by Convair at San Diego, California in June 1959, underwent several assignments throughout its military career. Initially, it was stationed at Geiger Field, Washington, with the 498th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron in November 1960. Following this, it was transferred to Spokane International Airport, Washington, with the same squadron in December 1963. In July 1968, the F-106A was relocated to Castle Air Force Base, California, where it served with the 437th Fighter Squadron, 414th Fighter Group. In September 1968, it was reassigned to the 460th Fighter Squadron, 414th Fighter Group, at Oxnard Air Force Base, California. The jet fighter was then moved to Kingsley Field, Oregon, with the 460th Fighter Squadron, 408th Fighter Group, in April 1969. In April 1971, it was transferred to Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota. In November 1972, the F-106A was assigned to the 186th Fighter Interceptor Squadron/120th Fighter Group at Great Falls International Airport, Montana, as part of the Air National Guard. In 1987, the aircraft was moved to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, for storage. In April 1992, it was converted into a drone by AEL Inc. in East Alton, Illinois, and was later transferred to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, as a QF-106 drone with the serial number AD19522. Tragically, it was shot down on June 95 during the 1st NULLO exercise by an AIM-120 missile.
