EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases Wallis & Steevens Road Roller GOU 537 Amy, a 10-ton steam-powered behemoth, during its appearance at the Redruth Steam Rally. Originally supplied new to the War Department (Royal Engineers, Aldershot) in 1935, this impressive machine was manufactured by Wallis & Steevens of Basingstoke, Hampshire. In 1948, the roller was taken in part-exchange by its makers and later sold to R. Dingle and Sons, Stoke Climsland. The extensive rebuild process for this historic vehicle commenced in 1993 and was completed in 1999. The date of this particular image is 1968, capturing the roller in its restored glory. This Advance Steam Roller, with its distinctive design and powerful presence, is a testament to the engineering prowess of its creators and the dedication of its preservationists.
