EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting black-and-white photograph, Princess Marina of Greece and Princess Elisabeth of Greece, the younger daughters of Prince and Princess Nicholas of Greece, pose for the camera in 1927. The sisters' youthful beauty and elegant demeanor are on full display as they smile warmly at the photographer. Princess Marina, born in 1906, is on the left of the image. She would later marry the Duke of Kent in 1934, becoming the Duchess of Kent and a prominent figure in British royal life. Her marriage to the Duke, who was the younger brother of King George VI, brought her into the British royal family. On the right of the photograph is Princess Elisabeth, born in 1904. She would marry Count Luitpold of Toerring-Jettenbach in 1931, taking the title Countess Toerring-Jettenbach. Her marriage was not recognized by the Greek royal family due to the stipulation that Greek royals could not marry non-Greeks without the permission of the king. The sisters' connection to Greece and their royal heritage are evident in their elegant attire and the regal bearing they display in the photograph. The image captures a moment in time, a glimpse into the lives of these young princesses before they embarked on their own paths and assumed new titles and roles. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of European royalty and the intricate web of connections that bind the various royal families together. It is a reminder of a bygone era, a time when titles, traditions, and familial relationships held great significance in the lives of the nobility.
