EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting photograph, Queen Farida of Egypt (1921-1988) tenderly holds her youngest daughter, Princess Ferial (1938-2009), as they celebrate the princess's first birthday in 1939. The image captures the loving bond between mother and child, as well as the regal elegance of the Egyptian royal family. Queen Farida, also known as Farida Ahmed Orabi Pasha, was the last queen consort of Egypt before the monarchy was abolished in 1952. She was the wife of King Farouk I and the mother of four children: Princesses Fawzia, Fayza, and Fawzia Farouk, and Prince Ahmed Fuad. Princess Ferial, whose full name was Ferial El-Masry, was the youngest of the queen's children. She was born on March 22, 1938, and grew up in the grandeur of the royal palace in Cairo. Princess Ferial was known for her beauty and intelligence, and she went on to marry Prince Mohamed Ali Tewfik of Egypt in 1961. This photograph is a precious reminder of a bygone era of Egyptian royalty and history. The image of Queen Farida and Princess Ferial, dressed in elegant clothing and adorned with traditional jewelry, conveys a sense of grace and tradition that is both timeless and captivating. The warmth and love between mother and daughter are palpable, making this image a cherished piece of historical record and a testament to the enduring bond between a queen and her child.
