Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Caes dos Mineiros
Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Mary Evans Picture Library
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Caes dos Mineiros
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - " Caes dos Mineiros". The literal translation of this is Dogs of the Mineiros (inhabitants of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais) - but I feel there could have been a translation blunder when the card was printed, the word " dogs" being substituted for the word " docks" (which looking at the card seems rather likely) !!!!! Date: circa 1910s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, circa 1910s, showcases the vibrant and bustling Caes dos Mineiros area in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The name "Caes dos Mineiros" translates to "Dogs of the Mineiros," but it is believed that a translation error occurred when the card was printed, as the true meaning is likely "Docks of the Mineiros" - a fitting name for this bustling harbor scene. The image portrays a busy quay side, filled with a variety of boats and ships docked at the port. The quay is lined with cranes and workers, suggesting the area's commercial importance as a hub for trade and transportation. The blue waters of the harbor stretch out behind the quay, reflecting the clear, sunny sky above. Rio de Janeiro, the second largest city in Brazil, was the country's capital from 1888 to 1960. During this time, the city underwent significant growth and modernization, making it an important economic and cultural center. The Caes dos Mineiros area, with its busy port, was a crucial part of this development. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the energy and activity of Rio de Janeiro's bustling harbor during the early 20th century. The image is a reminder of the city's rich history and its continued importance as a major commercial and cultural center in Brazil.
