This hand-coloured lantern slide depicts a breathtaking view of the Mer de Glace glacier in the late 1890s. Located on the northern slopes of Mont Blanc in the French Alps, the Mer de Glace, or "Sea of Ice," is one of the most famous glaciers in Europe.
