EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the Scottish rugby union three-quarter line of 1925, an extraordinary team composed entirely of players from Oxford University. From left to right, we see A.C. Wallace, G.G.Aitken, G.P.S.Macpherson, and I.S.Smith. Their collective efforts significantly contributed to Scotland's grand slam in the Five Nations tournament that year. Macpherson, an integral part of the team, is unfortunately absent from the fixture against Ireland in Dublin due to an injury. His place was honorably filled by J.C.Dykes. The Scottish team's success in the tournament was a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie and athleticism that existed between these Oxford University alumni. The Five Nations Championship, also known as the Home Nations Championship, was an annual international rugby union competition involving England, France, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Scotland's grand slam in 1925 marked a remarkable achievement for the team, as they managed to secure victories against all their opponents. This historical photograph serves as a reminder of the rich rugby heritage in Scotland and the significant role that Oxford University continues to play in nurturing exceptional talent in the sport. The determination, focus, and teamwork displayed by these players continue to inspire rugby enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
