27th Attire Census Chief Chieftain Clan Clans Feather Feb16 Kilt Loch Macleod Manager Reginald Sporran 1901

EDITORS COMMENTS
Sir Reginald MacLeod (1847-1935), the 27th Chief of MacLeod, is depicted in this striking photograph taken circa 1930. MacLeod became the chieftain of the Clan MacLeod following the death of his older brother. Prior to his ascension to the position of chief, Sir Reginald held the significant role of manager for the 1901 census in Scotland. The image captures Sir Reginald in traditional Scottish attire, donning a kilt, sporran, and a feathered cap, which is a symbol of his high rank within the clan. The backdrop of a serene loch adds to the traditional and picturesque setting. The 1930s, also known as the 30s or the Thirties, was a period of change and modernization in Scotland, yet Sir Reginald's adherence to traditional Scottish dress underscores the rich history and heritage of the Clan MacLeod. As the chieftain, Sir Reginald was responsible for the leadership and representation of the clan, both in Scotland and abroad. His dedication to preserving the customs and traditions of the Clan MacLeod made him a respected figure within the Scottish community. This photograph serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the MacLeod clan and the pride and tradition that continues to thrive within it.
