Ladies pose by the stall run by actress Miss Lily Elsie (Mrs Ian Bullough) at the Albert Hall in aid of the funds of St. Dunstans Hostel for blinded soldiers, a charity founded and run by Sir Arthur Pearson. The bazaar was opened by Queen Alexandra on 7th May 1917 and ran until the 10th. Sir Arthur Pearson in a speech on the occasion explained the After-Care scheme, which was designed to rehabilitate and forward the interests of those who passed through St. Dunstans as well as those still there learning trades. In this evocative photograph from 1917, a group of ladies pose at St. Dunstan's Bazaar held at the Albert Hall, an iconic London venue, in support of St. Dunstan's Hostel for blinded soldiers during World War I. The bazaar was opened by Her Majesty Queen Alexandra on May 7th, 1917, and continued until the 10th, raising essential funds for the charity founded and run by Sir Arthur Pearson. Sir Arthur Pearson, a prominent British newspaper proprietor, established St. Dunstan's to provide care and rehabilitation for soldiers who had lost their sight during the war.
