Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Cape of Good Hope

Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - British Colony of the Cape of Good Hope. These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1904

EDITORS COMMENTS
This Stamp Card print, published by Ottmar Zeihar around 1904, showcases a montage of stamps from the British Colony of the Cape of Good Hope. The Cape of Good Hope, located at the southernmost tip of Africa, was an important British colonial region during the 1900s. These Stamp Cards were a unique and unusual addition to the world of philately, allowing collectors to admire stamps that were either unobtainable or too expensive for their collections. The Stamp Card features a selection of 180 cards, with some representing smaller countries or regions that had very low printing runs, making them particularly rare. The design of these cards was embossed with an intricate stamp motif, which unfortunately was not approved by postal authorities due to the confusion it caused with the function of proper stamps. Each card in this set displays the coat of arms or crest of the respective country or region, adding to their historical and cultural significance. The Stamp Cards offer a fascinating glimpse into the philatelic world of the early 20th century, providing collectors with a diverse and unusual collection that continues to captivate and intrigue. Despite their popularity, used Zeiher Stamp Cards are exceptionally rare, making them highly sought-after items among collectors. This Stamp Card print serves as a beautiful reminder of the rich history and allure of stamp collecting during this era.
