Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Orange River Colony

Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Orange River Colony, South Africa (a British colony created after Britain first occupied (1900) and then annexed (1902) the independent Orange Free State in the Second Boer War). These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1904

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning Stamp Card print, published by Ottmar Zeihar in the early 1900s, showcases a montage of stamps from the Orange River Colony in South Africa. At the time, the Orange River Colony was a British territory formed after the occupation (1900) and subsequent annexation (1902) of the independent Orange Free State during the Second Boer War. These collectible Stamp Cards were produced to enable philatelists, or stamp collectors, to view and appreciate stamps that were either rare or unaffordable. The complete set consists of 180 cards, making it an impressive and coveted addition to any collection. Some of the smaller countries represented in this set had very low printing runs, making certain cards particularly rare and valuable. The design of these Stamp Cards, featuring an embossed stamp image, was not approved by postal authorities due to its potential to confuse the function of proper stamps. As a result, used Zeiher cards are exceptionally hard to find. Each card in this series showcases the crest or coat of arms of various countries and regions, providing a visual representation of their unique identities. The intricate details and vibrant colors of the designs are truly a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the time. This Stamp Card print, dating back to circa 1904, offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of philately during the 1900s and the unusual ways collectors went about acquiring and appreciating their prized possessions. Whether you're a seasoned collector or simply intrigued by the history of stamps and postal systems, this Stamp Card print is sure to captivate and inspire.
