Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Straits Settlements

Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Straits Settlements - British Crown Colony in Southeast Asia. These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1904

EDITORS COMMENTS
This Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar showcases a montage of stamps from the Straits Settlements, a British Crown Colony in Southeast Asia, circa 1904. The Straits Settlements was a collection of territories in the Malay Peninsula and the islands of Penang, Malacca, and Singapore. These Stamp Cards were a popular philatelic item among collectors during the early 1900s. Ottmar Zeihar's Stamp Cards enabled collectors to admire stamps that they were unable to obtain or afford due to low printing runs, especially in smaller countries. This particular card features a selection of coats of arms and crests from various regions and countries within the Straits Settlements. The intricate designs showcase the rich cultural heritage of the area. The Stamp Cards were published as a montage, with each stamp embossed onto the card. However, due to the embossed design, these cards were not approved by postal authorities as they could be mistaken for actual stamps. As a result, used Zeihar cards are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors. The Stamp Card presented here is an excellent example of the unusual and regional philatelic items produced during the early 1900s. Its vibrant colors and intricate details make it a fascinating addition to any stamp collection. With only a complete set of 180 cards known to exist, this Stamp Card is a rare and valuable find for any serious collector of stamps or postcards from the Straits Settlements or the British Crown Colonies in Southeast Asia.
