This chromolithograph, published by Heinrich Keller in 1883, showcases two intriguing gravestones from the 15th century. The gravestone on the left belongs to Agnes Bernauer, the mistress of Albrecht III, Duke of Bavaria, who met an untimely death at the age of 26 in 1436. Her tombstone is adorned with a knight in full armor, complete with a shield and helmet, symbolizing her late husband's status and power. Agnes was a prominent figure during the late Middle Ages, and her tragic story has been the subject of numerous legends and folktales. The gravestone on the right is that of Martin Leinsheim, a Furspanger, or member of the Order of the Buckle, which was founded by Emperor Karl IV in 1355. The Order of the Buckle was a military and social organization, and its members were known for their distinctive clothing and accessories, including the buckle that adorned their hats. Martin Leinsheim died in 1434, and his gravestone bears a vivid depiction of him in his Furspanger attire. This illustration was drawn by Dr. Jakob Heinrich von Hefner-Alteneck, a renowned German archeologist, art historian, and illustrator.
