EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from November 1969, we are transported back to the 11th Annual Poultry Feather Hat Competition at the prestigious CafAoe Royal on Regent Street. Irene Moffatt, a true fashion maverick, decided to take her prize-winning entry called "Fluffy Chick" for a stroll down Smithfield market. Her mission? To show the porters what a truly magnificent bird should look like! Irene's ensemble is nothing short of extraordinary. Designed by Mrs. N. Murphy of Cork, Eire, it consists of a swimsuit adorned with turkey feathers that mimic fluffy chick plumage, accompanied by an exquisite hat, slippers and even goggles - all made entirely out of these majestic feathers! The craftsmanship behind this outfit is evident as it took Mrs. Murphy an impressive 40 hours to create. In this delightful scene captured by Mirrorpix, Irene can be seen playfully weighing herself on the turkey scales while donning her feathered masterpiece. The image perfectly encapsulates the humor and creativity that defined fashion in the swinging sixties. This photograph not only showcases Irene's daring style but also highlights how fashion has always had its way of merging with unexpected elements - in this case, poultry feathers! It serves as a reminder that fashion knows no boundaries when it comes to imagination and self-expression. So let us marvel at Irene Moffatt's audacious choice in attire and applaud Mrs. N. Murphy for her remarkable talent in creating such an unforgettable garment!
