Putting her best foot forward... Little Jessica Meacham, watched by Mrs Elizabeth Bishop, sets off on a 10-lap sponsored toddle. The toddle - by more than 50 children and their childminders - was on the grass area of the Huddersfield Market Hall piazza. Proceeds will go towards Kirklees Childminders Association funds. The event coupled with a play-in, was organised as part of National Childminding Week. Other activities planned are a visit to Blackpool Zoo on Thursday and a picnic in Greenhead Park on Friday. 17th June 1985

The grass area of the Huddersfield Market Hall piazza was transformed into a playground for more than 50 children and their childminders as they gathered to support the Kirklees Childminders Association funds. This heartwarming event took place during National Childminding Week in June 1985. With determination shining in her eyes, Jessica led the way as she embarked on her laps around the grassy track. Each step she took represented hope and support for children in need. The community came together to cheer her on, celebrating unity and compassion. The toddle was just one of many activities planned throughout the week-long event. Excitement filled the air as everyone looked forward to visiting Blackpool Zoo later that week and enjoying a delightful picnic at Greenhead Park on Friday. This photograph captures not only an adorable moment but also showcases the power of collective action towards a common cause. It reminds us that even small steps can make a significant impact when we come together with love and generosity.
