EDITORS COMMENTS
Captured in this vintage print is the majestic RMS Ivernia, a remarkable ocean liner that was built in 1955 by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland for the renowned Cunard Line. Standing proudly at Liverpool Docks on the 21st of December 1967, she exudes an air of elegance and grandeur. Originally designed as a transatlantic liner, the RMS Ivernia underwent a transformation in 1963 when she was converted into a luxurious cruise ship and renamed RMS Franconia. This marked a new chapter in her illustrious career as she continued to sail under the Cunard flag, offering unforgettable voyages to discerning travelers. However, like all great ships eventually do, her time came to an end. In 1971, after years of faithful service and countless nautical miles traveled, the beloved RMS Ivernia bid farewell to her seafaring days and was laid up from active duty. This photograph not only showcases the timeless beauty of this iconic vessel but also serves as a nostalgic reminder of an era when ocean liners were synonymous with luxury travel and adventure on the high seas. Preserved through Ian Kelso's lens, it allows us to step back in time and appreciate both the craftsmanship involved in building such magnificent ships and their significant role in shaping maritime history.
