Hows the bird line? Birds, believed to be House Sparrows have built their nest
Hows the bird line? Birds, believed to be House Sparrows have built their nest, wrapped about the spindle that drives the hands of the church clock at St John the Baptist Church, Little Missenden, Bucks. The picturesque church part of which is 13th century usually brings throngs of visitors at the weekends and now they have added interest, for the parent birds are obviously feeding their young. Some people are under the impression that the nests moves around with the hands of the clock but the birds are not silly and have tethered the nest to the clock framework and only the spindle moves possibly rocking the nest as it does so.
One thing is quite certain after hours of " bird" and " time" watching the clock is dead on time, we think the birds should be on time for their feeds too. 11th May 1960

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enchanting sight of House Sparrows building their nest around the spindle that drives the hands of St John the Baptist Church clock in Little Missenden, Bucks. The picturesque church, dating back to the 13th century, is a popular destination for weekend visitors who now have an added interest to admire. As onlookers observe these diligent parent birds diligently feeding their young, some may mistakenly believe that the nest moves along with the clock's hands. However, these clever sparrows have tethered their nest securely to the clock framework, allowing only the spindle's movement to gently rock their home. Despite this avian activity taking place high above ground level, one thing remains certain: time waits for no one. After hours spent watching both bird and time pass by simultaneously, it becomes evident that this clock never misses a beat. Just as punctual as its mechanical counterpart should be these feathered parents attending to their offspring's needs. The photograph transports us back to May 11th in 1960 when George Greenwell captured this timeless moment where nature intertwines with human creation. It serves as a reminder of how even amidst our busy lives and bustling schedules, we can find solace in observing nature's harmonious existence alongside our own daily routines.
