EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to Milton Keynes in January 1967, showcasing the local pub that was at the heart of this rapidly developing town. Milton Keynes, or MK as it is commonly known, was designated as a new town just days before this picture was taken. The ambitious design brief aimed for it to become a city in scale, and today it stands as a thriving administrative center located approximately 45 miles north-west of London. The photograph captures not only the pub but also provides glimpses of the surrounding countryside and rural charm that existed before extensive development took place. This area encompassed existing towns such as Bletchley, Wolverton, and Stony Stratford along with several villages and farmland. It is fascinating to see how these elements coexisted harmoniously during this transformative period. Milton Keynes derived its name from an existing village situated a few miles east of its planned center. As we delve into this image frozen in time, we are transported back to an era when country lanes were still prevalent amidst the emerging urban landscape. This snapshot from Memory Lane Prints allows us to appreciate both the historical significance and natural beauty that characterized Milton Keynes during its early stages of growth. It serves as a reminder of how cities evolve over time while retaining their unique identity rooted in their pasts.
