The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the strict rationing measures imposed during those challenging years. Rationing was introduced on January 8th, 1940, initially covering bacon, butter, and sugar. Subsequently, other essential items such as meat, tea, jam, biscuits, breakfast cereals, cheese eggs lard milk canned and dried fruit were also subject to restrictions - although not all at once.
