The book was an account of the first successful journey by motor vehicle from Cape Town to Cairo, accomplished by Stella Court Treatt and her husband, Major Chaplin Court Treatt, in 1924-1926. Heavy rains and mud meant the approximately 400 mile section of the journey between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls took four months to complete
