The image is taken from Prideaux John Selby's volume "Pigeons" in Sir William Jardine's Naturalist's Library: Ornithology, published by W.H. Lizars in Edinburgh in 1835. The illustration was created by the renowned artist Edward Lear, who expertly captured the intricate details of the Brown Cuckoo-Dove's plumage and distinctive features. The Brown Cuckoo-Dove, also known as the Tailed Pigeon or the Pheasant-tailed Dove, is a member of the Columbidae family. It is characterized by its brownish-gray body, black wings with white spots, and a long, graduated tail. This bird is a ground-dweller and is known for its shy and elusive nature, making it a challenging species to observe in the wild.
