This evocative print captures the daring exploits of Thomas Henry Kavanagh (1821-1882), a British soldier who played a pivotal role in the relief of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny of 1857. Undeterred, they press on, only to encounter a Sepoy picket (circle), their presence a potential threat to the relief mission. Undaunted, Kavanagh and his guide continue their perilous journey, eventually reaching the grove of mango trees (bottom right), where they find momentary respite.
