EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Matthew Henry: A Nonconformist Churchman and Bible Commentator" Matthew Henry (1662-1714) was a prominent Nonconformist churchman and Bible commentator in 17th century England. Born on October 28, 1662, in Hambro' Fleming, Wales, Henry grew up in a religious household and was educated at the University of Oxford. However, due to his Nonconformist beliefs, he was unable to hold a position in the Church of England. Instead, he devoted his life to the study and exposition of the Bible. Henry's most significant work is his six-volume commentary on the entire Bible, titled "A Complete Exposition of the Old and New Testaments." This comprehensive work, which took him over 40 years to complete, became a standard reference for Protestant ministers and scholars. Henry's commentary is known for its clear, concise, and practical explanations, making it accessible to a wide audience. Despite facing persecution for his Nonconformist beliefs, Henry remained dedicated to his faith and his work. He was a frequent preacher and a respected leader in the Nonconformist community. Henry's influence extended beyond England, as his commentary was translated into several languages and became popular in Europe and America. Henry's legacy continues to be felt today, as his commentary remains in print and is used by scholars, pastors, and laypeople alike. His commitment to the study and exposition of the Bible has inspired generations of Bible teachers and students. This photograph captures the image of a man deeply devoted to his faith and his calling, leaving a lasting impact on the history of biblical scholarship. Matthew Henry's life and work serve as a reminder of the importance of faith, perseverance, and the power of the written word. His legacy continues to inspire and challenge us to engage with the Bible in a deeper and more meaningful way.
