Mlle. Andrea as Paghita in Le Barbier du Roi d'Aragon (The Queen's Barber), 1844, is a stunning handcoloured lithograph capturing the grace and elegance of the renowned French actress, Mlle. Andrea, in the title role of this popular 19th-century French play. The image, created by Louis Marie Fontan and Jean-Joseph Ader, was based on an illustration by Alexandre Lacauchie, published in Victor Dollet's Galerie Dramatique: Costumes des Théâtres de Paris (Gallery of Dramatic Costumes: Costumes of the Parisian Theatres) in 1845. Le Barbier du Roi d'Aragon, a comedy by Eugène Scribe and Mélesville, premiered at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris on January 15, 1844. Mlle. Andrea's portrayal of Paghita, the queen's chambermaid, was highly acclaimed, and this lithograph is a testament to her exceptional talent and the captivating production. The intricately detailed image showcases Mlle. Andrea's exquisite costume, complete with a voluminous, embroidered gown, a lace-trimmed bodice, and a headdress adorned with pearls and feathers.
