RMS Titanic - items from Erik Jaer Archive

RMS Titanic - items from the Erik Jaer Archive. Mr Jaer was a Norwegian man working in the United States in 1912. The archive comprises letters and photographs of Mr Jaer, and newspaper cuttings. The most important element is a receipt, relating to a third class ticket on the Titanic for 11 May 1912, her fourth scheduled voyage but a little under a month after she sank. Ticket receipts for Titanic's maiden voyage are extremely rare but to have anything relating to a third class ticket for her fourth voyage is virtually unheard of

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the iconic RMS Titanic, the unsinkable ship that tragically met its end in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. The image, part of the Erik Jaer Archive, offers a rare glimpse into the past through a third class ticket receipt for the Titanic's fourth scheduled voyage, dated May 11, 1912. Mr. Jaer, a Norwegian man working in the United States at the time, left behind a valuable collection of letters, photographs, and newspaper cuttings that have been preserved in this archive. The importance of this element lies in the rarity of ticket receipts for the Titanic's maiden voyage, let alone one for her fourth voyage, just under a month after the disaster. The White Star Line's luxurious ocean liner, a symbol of modern transportation and travel, had only resumed its voyages in September 1912 following the tragic sinking. The receipt serves as a poignant reminder of the thousands of lives that were forever changed by the Titanic's sinking. This historical artifact, now part of the Erik Jaer Archive, offers a unique perspective on the past and the human stories that unfolded during one of history's most significant maritime events. The photograph, taken from an unknown vantage point, showcases the Titanic's grandeur and elegance, with its distinctive white hull and star emblem proudly displayed against the vast, blue ocean. The image, along with the other treasured items in the Erik Jaer Archive, invites us to reflect on the past and the enduring allure of the sea and the ships that have sailed its depths.
