Fairey Firefly AS.7 WJ154 (msn F8764): A Historic Military Aviation Piece This photograph showcases the Fairey Firefly AS.7, with the registration number WJ154, during its tenure at RNAS Lossiemouth around 1952. The Firefly, a versatile British carrier-borne aircraft, was designed and manufactured by Fairey Aviation Company Limited. Delivered to the Royal Navy on October 2, 1952, this particular Firefly, with manufacturing serial number F8764, served in the fleet for a significant period. The Firefly AS.7 was an anti-submarine warfare variant, equipped with the ASV Mark 7 radar and dipping sonobuoy equipment, making it an essential asset in the fight against submarines. Eventually, on August 22, 1958, this historic aircraft was sold as scrap. The end of its military career marked the conclusion of an era, as the Firefly made way for more advanced aircraft in the Royal Navy's fleet. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, capturing the Fairey Firefly AS.7 WJ154 in its prime, standing proudly at RNAS Lossiemouth. It is a poignant reminder of the important role this aircraft played in the defense of the United Kingdom during the mid-20th century.
