EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the determination and resilience of Sacco, the Champion Fasting Man, as he embarks on another round of his historic feats of endurance. Taken in the late 19th century, this image is a testament to the human spirit and the lengths people will go to prove their strength and willpower. Sacco, whose real name was Giuseppe Moscati, was an Italian-American man who gained international fame for his extraordinary ability to fast for extended periods. He began his fasting career in 1870, when he went without food for 40 days and 40 nights, drawing large crowds and gaining the attention of the media. Over the next few decades, Sacco continued to break records, fasting for up to 41 days at a time. The photograph shows Sacco in the midst of one of his fasts, surrounded by a group of curious onlookers. He sits calmly on a chair, his face expressionless, his eyes closed in meditation. A small table next to him is laden with food, a stark reminder of the sacrifice he is making. The atmosphere is tense, with the anticipation of the crowd adding to the sense of drama. Despite the many challenges he faced during his fasts, including illness and even attempts to sabotage his efforts, Sacco remained committed to his cause. He believed that his feats would inspire others to lead healthier lives and to strive for greatness. And indeed, his legacy continues to inspire us today, as a reminder of the incredible things that the human body is capable of achieving through willpower and determination.
