This evocative photograph captures a historic moment in the post-war history of the Netherlands, as Winston Churchill (1874-1965) pays a visit to Her Majesty Queen Juliana (1909-2004) and her husband, Prince Bernhard (1911-2004), at their residence, Soestdijk Palace, in Baarn on 8th May 1948. Following the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi occupation, Churchill, then the British Prime Minister, was a key figure in the restoration of the Dutch monarchy. In this image, the royal family warmly welcomes their esteemed guest, with their four children, Princess Beatrix, Princess Irene of Parma, Princess Margriet, and Princess Christina, joining in the reception.
