The ancient market cross at Brigstock, Northamptonshire sometimes called locally " The Butter Cross" dates from the Edward who reigned in 1686. The principle landowner in this picturesque village and parish is the home of the famous foxhound pack, the woodland pytohley. The market cross was formely the pivot around wich a travelling fair was set up three times a year. Neighbouring farmers used to set up their butter and other produce around the steps of the cross - hence the name Butter Cross.
