Six-year-old Tony Wood of Swanscombe, Kent, has a disability and is learning to walk
Six-year-old Tony Wood of Swanscombe, Kent, has a disability and is learning to walk, and now he has a pal to go on his walks too. On the ATV programme Slaters Bazaar John Slater told viewers he wanted to find a home for a Beagle pup and invited viewers to give a reason why they should be chosen. His father, Harold Wood, wrote that his boy was only just learning to use his legs and thought a puppy trotting ahead would spur him on. Tony has named the pup Bimbo after the ambulance driver who takes him for treatment at Gravesend Hospital. 15th July 1957

Tony, who hails from Swanscombe, Kent, is bravely overcoming a disability and learning to walk. And now, with the arrival of a playful Beagle pup in his life, he has found an extra source of motivation during his walks. The story behind this special connection unfolded on the ATV programme Slaters Bazaar when John Slater expressed his desire to find a loving home for a Beagle puppy. Viewers were invited to share their reasons for being chosen as the lucky recipient.
