With their uniforms perfectly aligned and rifles held with pride, these brave soldiers exemplify the comradery and discipline that defined this renowned line infantry regiment of the British Army. Originating in 1685 as Sir William Cliftons Regiment of Foot, later renamed the 15th Regiment of Foot, this esteemed regiment served its country for an impressive three centuries. Eventually merging with the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Waless Own) in 1958, it formed the Prince of Waless Own Regiment of Yorkshire. Further amalgamation occurred on June 6th, 2006 when it joined forces with the Green Howards and Duke of Wellingtons Regiment (West Riding), becoming the prestigious Yorkshire Regiment. The picture was taken circa February 1st, 1934 during a time when tensions were rising across Europe. As World War II loomed on the horizon, these dedicated soldiers diligently trained on rural dirt tracks like this one in Whitby. This image not only captures their dedication to duty but also showcases the picturesque countryside backdrop that stood witness to their drills and exercises.
