In an age of horse drawn vehicles, this ferry landing would have given the people of Gerrans a faster and easier access to St Mawes, where another ferry could take them to Falmouth. The alternative would have meant a long road journey. The carvel built vessel in the middle of the picture has a funnel and steam engine which is covered by a tarpaulin.
